ITALIAN NGOS
A number of initiatives implemented by the Italian Non
Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the Palestinian
Territories are financed, on a different proportion, by the
Italian Government, through the Directorate General for
Cooperation and Development (DGCS), the NGO promoter of the
intervention, and by local counterparts.
These projects are conceived, formulated and implemented in
partnership with Palestinian NGOs and are mainly people to
people oriented. The initiatives focus mainly on social
development issues (health, education and poverty
alleviation) on economic growth (strengthening small
enterprises, sustaining agriculture and traditional
handcraft) and on cultural issues (promotion and safeguard
cultural heritage).
The commitment of the Italian NGOs in addressing social
development and promoting participation within the
Palestinian communities is the result of concrete projects
and interventions in different sectors. Some of them are
also contributed with funds of the Italian Regions and Local
Authorities, some other through the European Union.
Since
two years, an ad hoc Department for the Coordination of the
NGOs activities was established at the Italian Cooperation
Office in Jerusalem. The objective of this Office is to
strengthen and harmonize the Italian NGO interventions on
the ground, identify worthy project proposals and create
opportunities for direct encounters and exchanges of ideas
between all the Italian stakeholders committed on the
ground.
The most relevant NGOs ongoing projects co-funded by the
Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are listed
here.
Furthermore, in view of the possibilities guaranteed by the
Italian Law 80/2005, many of the Italian NGOs have been
entrusted the implementation of numerous initiatives within
the ongoing Emergency Programs for the West Bank and Gaza
Strip.
The Emergency Projects handed over to the Italian NGOs are
listed
here.
